More Stencils?  I wrote about stencils last month, and how I was inspired to create a look I had seen on True Blood.  Well, while searching for looks to re-create Vampire Bill’s beautiful walls, I came across an awesome stencil site called Cutting Edge Stencils.  The pattern stenciling looks amazing, and I really can’t wait to try it, but I thought I would start small with a simple Zinnia.

Our half bath was one of the last rooms to get a makeover.  Though I don’t have a picture of it in it’s original state, like our kitchen it was covered in floral wallpaper.  It was like a lovely half bath garden.  This bathroom is actually a converted laundry room that the previous owners created.  It’s nice having an extra bathroom, but I would much rather have a laundry room.  We currently have to do our laundry in the garage, which is rough when it’s 100+ degrees all summer.  Anyways, this room never received a proper makeover.  It’s hard finding inspiration out there on Mr. Google for such an insignificant room.  So I had to envision this one all on my own.  Thanks to one Zinnia stencil, this makeover is turning out nicely.

Post Wallpaper, pre-zinnia blahness.

Check out the stenciling process.  It wasn’t too bad,  and I tried it with both a small paintbrush and a sponge.  They were both about the same as far as look and effort.  I used painters tape to hold the stencil in place and this worked perfectly. The process took awhile because you could only do about four zinnias before the stencil was too saturated with paint.  I then had to rinse and clean it to get the paint build-up off.

Post Zinnia, drip painting,  and new IKEA BAREN shelf.

These cute accessories came from World Market.

I’m still working on a new drip painting for the wall behind the T throne.  I also just purchased some DwellStudio fabric for a window treatment.  This converted laundry room now a half bathroom is coming along nicely.  The final reveal is coming.

Oh, and that stencil is available in multiple sizes.  I used the small size for this project.  It wasn’t that small.

Did u only do 1 wall? I’ve been thinking about doing a stencil in our half bath but I sm concerned doing the entire space will be suffocating.

Hi Leah, I only stenciled on two of the walls. I was afraid it being too much as well, especially in such a small room. Good luck with your project!

Thanks Abby, I ordered the small and xtra small and will be doing a light brown wall with white and chocolate zinnias.
Did you use regular wall paint for the flowers? I have been reading some DIY stenciling blogs and such, and I noticed some people are using acrylic paint from Michael’s, so I was just curios. For the amount of paint it seems like a cheaper option, but I wonder if its as durable.

Hi Leah, I bet your project is going to look great! I love the picture they show on the site with the multi-sized stencils. Regarding paint, I had extra latex wall paint leftover from painting our den so I just used that. It might take a few bottles of acrylic art paint, but if you are only doing a small room it would definitely be cost effective. I’m not an expert at paint, but I think it would be just as durable.
